Sex and the City, Face on the Cover
Kristen Davis, who plays Charlotte York McDougal, the good girl of HBO's "Sex and the City," was the belle of the ball Saturday at Southampton's Capri Hotel as she joined friends, well-wishers and Mandi Norwood, editor-in-chief of Mademoiselle magazine, reports PEOPLE. Reason for the bash: to celebrate Davis's making the August cover of Mademoiselle. Acting nothing like her uptight TV character (who wants only to become pregnant by her mama's boy of a husband, played by Kyle MacLachlan), Davis, 36, was showing off her bare midriff and giggling with friends who dropped by to congratulate her. Needless to say, cosmopolitans were the drink of choice. "It feels great to be on the cover, but a little bit scary," Davis told PEOPLE. "I have never been on a cover, and when I walk down the street of New York and I see the magazines, I am like, 'Yah! That's me!' " (Sounds like a scene out of the series.) Will the South Carolina native, who did a stint on "Melrose Place" before landing a perch on "Sex," ever consider modeling? "No," she insists, "I think that I am lucky to be on a show that is very popular." Plus, in the meantime, she admits to being overwhelmed by popularity of the magazine cover. "You know," she says, it's a good problem to have, to be a little overwhelmed."
