The weekend's 2nd Annual Karrie Webb Pro-Am to Benefit the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation at New York's Manhattan Woods Golf Club raised over $300,000, up from last year's $115,000, reports PEOPLE. Reeve, 48, says the money will go to paralysis research, and next year he hopes to raise even more. "Why not aim for $500,000?" he said. Reeve worked with the LPG's 2000 player of the year, Karrie Webb, whose longtime coach and mentor, Kevin Haller, was involved in an accident that left him, like Reeve, a quadriplegic. Those who turned out to assist in the event included Aidan Quinn, Ray Romano, Joe Pesci, Billy Baldwin and Chevy Chase, along with nine LPGA professional women. Romano, 43, said he was happy to help Reeve. "He's just an inspiring guy," said the "Everybody Loves Raymond" star. "And he's a great person." As for his participation, Romano said, "I try to do as many charities as I can, but this one, being I got to meet Christopher and was inspired by him, I tried to make this happen . . . Plus, my wife has a hard time telling me, 'No' when I tell her I'm golfing in a charity event."
