Britain's Prince Charles, 52, was taken to a hospital in western England on Friday after he fell from his horse while playing polo, his spokeswoman said. He was participating in a charity polo match at the time of the incident. "He has been taken to Cirencester Hospital," said the spokeswoman. "We don't think there's been any broken bones, but we are waiting for reports from the hospital." The accident occurred at about 4 p.m. GMT, midway through the second period of play. Charles's two sons, Princes William, 19 and Harry, 16, reportedly were playing on their father's team and then planned to continue the game with a replacement player, said the palace. In more positive medical news about the royal family, the Queen Mother Elizabeth, who turns 101 on Saturday, went home from the hospital on Thursday evening after receiving a blood transfusion to treat her anemia. (Earlier reports had said that she was suffering from mild heat exhaustion.) The beloved figure -- who is Charles's maternal grandmother -- waved and smiled to the gathering of applauding well-wishers waiting outside central London's King Edward VII Hospital. Looking frail but rosy in a pale blue coat and floral hat, she held onto the railing and climbed slowly down the hospital steps to the sidewalk, where she thanked the medical staff and entered her chauffeur-driven limo for a short drive home to Clarence House.
