And Here's to You, Kathleen Turner
The "Romancing the Stone" star will open in a Broadway production of "The Graduate," while in London Glenn Close will play Blanche duBois in "A Streetcar Named Desire."

This spring, Kathleen Turner will play the quintessential seductress, Mrs. Robinson, in an upcoming Broadway production of the London stage hit "The Graduate," based on the 1967 movie comedy, her publicists have confirmed. The "Serial Mom" and "Romancing the Stone" star, 47, left critics and audiences in London somewhat agog when she played the role there and appeared nude (however briefly, and on a dimly lit set) during the scene in which she first beds virginal hero Benjamin Braddock. (In the movie, based on a Charles Webb novel, the roles were played by Anne Bancroft and then-newcomer Dustin Hoffman.) The Benjamin role has yet to be cast, but Playbill.com says that among the contenders to play Mrs. Robinson's daughter, Elaine (Katharine Ross in the movie), is "Clueless" star Alicia Silverstone, 24. In other stage news, late next year Glenn Close, 54, will play Blanche duBois, one of the great American stage roles of all time, in the British National Theater's production of Tennessee Williams's classic "A Streetcar Named Desire," the stage company has announced. Trevor Nunn, who also directed Close in the stage musical "Sunset Boulevard," will oversee her transition from Cruella de Vil to the tragic Blanche.
