Hope Is Home, Carey Back in Hospital
The veteran comic, recuperating from a bout with pneumonia, has been discharged from the hospital after 11 days, while singer Mariah Carey reportedly has been readmitted.

DISCHARGED: Comedian Bob Hope, 98, went home from the hospital on Thursday, 11 days after he was admitted for a case of pneumonia. "Mr. Hope is doing fine and eating well," said his doctor, Dr. Lee Kagan, "however, it will be several more weeks before he is fully recovered from this illness" . . . RE-HOSPITALIZED: Mariah Carey, 31, who suffered a physical and emotional breakdown in July, has suffered a relapse and is in a Los Angles hospital, according to New York's Daily News. Carey's publicist issued a curt "no comment" when asked about her client's latest situation. The singer had canceled her eagerly anticipated Sept. 12 interview with Barbara Walters, it was announced earlier this week. At the time, Carey's publicist, Cindi Berger, said the singer required more time to rest . . . BORN: Model Cindy Crawford, 35, and her husband of four years, restaurateur Rande Gerber, 39, have welcomed their second child, a baby girl, Kaya Jordan Gerber, born Monday in L.A. The baby weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces and has a brother, Presley Walker Gerber, who was born July 2, 1999. Also, Rhonda Adkins, wife of country singer Trace Adkins, has given birth to a daughter, Brianna Rhea Adkins, born Tuesday in Nashville. The couple have another daughter, and Trace Adkins has two teen-age daughters from a previous marriage . . . EXPECTING: Oscar-winning screenwriter Ernest Lehman ("North By Northwest," "The Sound of Music"), 85, and his wife, Laurie, 34, are expecting a baby in early April, says Variety . . . CHARGED: LeAnn Rimes's former bodyguard and personal trainer, Robert Lavetta Iadevaia Jr., known as Robert Lavetta, has been indicted by a grand jury in L.A. for allegedly threatening to sell personal information and photos of the country singer, 19, to the tabloids if he was not paid off, according to court documents. Lavetta pleaded innocent and was freed on $25,000 bond . . . ADVANCED: Pete Sampras, 30, defeated Andre Agassi, 31, 6-7, 7-6, 7-6, 7-6 at the U.S. Tennis Open Wednesday, to move into the semifinals. After the 3-hour, 32-minute quarterfinal, Sampras said, "That's as good as it gets."
