Driver, Brolin Split; Doherty Fined
CANCELLED: Actors Minnie Driver, 31, and Josh Brolin, 33, have broken off their 5 1/2-month-old engagement, her publicist said Wednesday. "Their decision is mutual and amicable," the brief statement said. No other details were given. Brolin became a stepson to Barbra Streisand in July 1998 when the veteran singer-actress married his father, actor James Brolin. Driver and Brolin had announced plans to marry last April . . . SENTENCED: Former "Charmed" star Shannen Doherty, 30, received a minimum penalty Tuesday and will spend five days picking up highway trash as punishment for her April drunken-driving conviction in Southern California, reports USA Today. The driving incident occurred last December. Doherty was reportedly not present in court at the time of the sentencing. And Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Bonnie Raitt, 51, pleaded guilty to trespassing at an Illinois wood products company during a peaceful July anti-logging protest. She (along with 16 others who'd been involved in the protest) was fined $150 and given 90 days' probation. The rally, organized by the San Francisco-based Rainforest Action Network, was intended to draw attention to Boise Cascade's logging practices in some of the nation's most precious forests . . . WITHDRAWN: Embattled California Congressman Gary Condit, 53, who was linked to missing 24-year-old federal intern Chandra Levy, has taken his $130,000 Washington, D.C., bachelor pad off the market, say reports. He reputedly feared the media attention that would be focused on the condo . . . BORN: Actor Harvey Keitel, 62, is the proud father of a new baby girl. Friends say that the mother is a potter named Lisa, but neither Keitel nor his reps returned calls to New York's Daily News inquiring into her last name or the status of their relationship . . . DIED: Gregory Hemingway, 69, youngest son of late legendary writer Ernest (who fatally shot himself in 1961 at the age of 61), died of natural causes in a Miami jail after being arrested for indecent exposure, officials said on Thursday. Gregory led a troubled life said to have been fueled by a difficult relationship with his father. He had a sex change operation and suffered through bouts of drinking and depression, acquaintances told Reuters.
