Don't take a vacation from the comics page on Thanksgiving. In their first coordinated tribute since an April 2000 memorial for "Peanuts" creator Charles Schultz, a hundred comic artists have mustered their characters to raise money for the victims of the World Trade Center disaster. All the strips will carry the Internet address www.networkforgood.org, a charity web site. "As comic strip artists we try to put a smile on people's faces and give comfort, and if we can do that, we'd be happy," Patrick McDonnell, creator of "Mutts," told the Associated Press. Dennis the Menace will put aside his usual mischief and say a prayer for "family, friends, heroes and freedom." "Piranha Club" will warn terrorists of the "indomitable" American spirit. Other strips will explore the true meaning of the flag, and how small children are assimilating national tragedy. "It probably wasn't the easiest cartoon for most of them to do," said McDonnell. "But they probably felt good after it was done, and we hope people who read it will get something out of it."
