"I was very careful to ensure that I was not endangering her marriage (to assistant film director Jim Threapleton)," Mendes told the BBC. "Indeed it was already over, and I came along well after. I am delighted to express my delight at being with Kate" . . . BORN: A nine pound daughter named Grace Helen to conservative media mogul Rupert Murdoch, 70, and wife Wendi Deng, 33. Murdoch has four other adult offspring by two previous wives . . . REVEALED: Deion Sanders's 4000-square-foot clothes closet by Atlanta clothier David Corbitt. "And that's just for his suits," Corbitt told the San Francisco Chronicle. "The shoes have their own closet. It's about a thousand square feet. I'd say he has 300 to 400 pair." And 700 suits . . . In subsequent years, he scored TV commercials and is perhaps best remembered for the catchy jingle, "Winston tastes good like a cigarette should."
