Late Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain's mother is appalled at the accusations surviving band members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl have leveled against her son's widow, Courtney Love, according to Reuters. "Shocked and disgusted" is how Wendy Fradenburg Cobain O'Connor describes her reaction to the remaining band members' attempts to get Love off a board that controls official Nirvana dealings and a boxed set of the band's hits. Novoselic and Grohl planned to release the boxed set in October 2001, to tie in with the 10th anniversary of the band's breakthrough "Nevermind" album, but Love obtained an injunction blocking its release. Novosclic and Grohl then countersued Love for what they claimed was her inability to be an effective member of the band's board. O'Connor, who receives financial support from Love, has called Novoselic and Grohl "liars and crooks" who were trying to swindle her son out of money while he was struggling with depression. "It's never been in my nature to take advantage of my son's stunning success, but I know that my son would want me to stand up for him and his family in this moment of what I can only describe as total betrayal," she told Reuters. Novoselic and Grohl's suit also accuses Love of performing Nirvana songs in public while not allowing them to release the original versions and states their claim on Nirvana material as collaborators on the songs.
