Muhammad Ali, 58, perhaps the most famous Muslim American, and easily one of the most famous across the globe, has agreed to film a public service announcement (PSA) aimed at Muslims everywhere, reports Variety. At a press conference on Thursday, Jack Valenti, president and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America, announced that the PSA starring the boxing champ is currently being produced and will be translated into various languages for Islamic audiences in the Middle East, Pakistan, the Far East and elsewhere. In it, Muhammad Ali will emphasize that the war on terrorism, currently being waged by the U.S. and its allies, is not intended to be an attack on Muslims or Arabs. One of President Bush's main hurdles in the war so far has been a battle over perception, with many Muslims around the world believing that the U.S. is the enemy of their religion. When asked if the film industry was somewhat responsible for the misperception, Valenti said, "In Hollywood, we have equal-opportunity prejudice,'' since almost every ethnicity has been portrayed as villainous in film." The Starz! cable channel has also produced two upcoming PSA's to be broadcast in the U.S., which promote tolerance toward Arab-Americans.
