Take the 'Sex and the City' Tour

Say what you will about the lifestyles of the four women on HBO's "Sex and the City," but visitors to New York -- and even some locals -- seem to love searching out their haunts. To that end, reports the New York Post, comes the once-weekly "Sex and the City" tour, operated by Georgette Blau, a 1996 Skidmore grad who formerly worked in publishing before devoting her full attention to guiding diehard "Sex" addicts on a three-hour mini-bus exploration of the favorite haunts of Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda. Blau told the paper she developed the tour route by closely monitoring the actions of the show's lead character, played by Sarah Jessica Parker. "I rewind and rewind," Blau said of her study. Although much of the show is actually shot on the soundstages of the Silvercup Studios in Astoria, Queens (an outer borough where, frankly, the four women on the show would never be caught dead), the tour kicks off at the bar in the Plaza Hotel (where Samantha once picked up an elderly millionaire over cosmopolitans). It then moves on to a shoe shop where Carrie (Parker) picks up $500 shoes. All told, there are 40 stops on the tour, which costs $25, according to Blau's On Location Inc. Web site. Blau also operates a tour of the New Jersey locations of "The Sopranos," but she told the Post that she gets a bigger kick out of the "Sex" tours. "This," she said, "is like a bachelorette party."
