KFC pitchman and former "Seinfeld" sidekick Jason Alexander, 41, has proved that the medium is not the message. The star of the ill-fated recent ABC sitcom "Bob Paterson," which got the ax after only five airings, nonetheless landed on the list of People's Choice Award nominees as favorite male performer in a new TV series, it was announced Tuesday. The 28th annual People's Choice Awards -- in which winners in the categories of TV, music and film -- are chosen by a national telephone poll conducted by Gallup and will be presented on CBS Jan. 13. Alexander's competition will be Scott Bakula ("Enterprise") and Damon Wayans ("My Wife and Kids"). In the category of favorite female performer in a new series: Ellen DeGeneres ("The Ellen Show"), Kim Delaney ("Philly"), Jill Hennessy ("Crossing Jordan") and Reba McEntire ("Reba"). Other TV stars nominated for favorite performers in more established shows included Drew Carey, Kelsey Grammer, Ray Romano, Jennifer Aniston, Calista Flockhart and Oprah Winfrey. Among the music nominees are country's Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, George Strait and Faith Hill, as well as pop divas Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears. In film, the names include Lopez again, as well as Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington, Sandra Bullock, Eddie Murphy, Ben Stiller, Anthony Hopkins and three of last January's winners, Julia Roberts, Jim Carrey and Mel Gibson.
