It's been weeks since Eminem has antagonized anybody, it seems, but now the raging rapper is back in peak form. Residents and officials in Highland Park, Mich., are up in arms over Eminem's plans to torch a vacant home in order to provide a touch of realism as he shoots his new, untitled movie, reports the Detroit News. Kim Basinger is his costar. In the scene, neighbors burn the house, which is rumored to be the site of some criminal activity. "The scene is important to our movie because of an epiphany experienced by the character played by Marshall Mathers (Eminem)," the movie's producer, Carol Fenelon, told the News. The moviemakers' request to set the blaze comes with a pledge to donate $2,000 to a Highland Park charity and to lecture high school students about the movie business. But these gestures failed to appease about 50 residents who protested the blaze on Tuesday. "I see no entertainment value in burning homes," said city councilman Earl O. Wheeler Jr. Added president pro-tem Dr. Ameenah E.P. Omar: "What Eminem stands for is the antithesis of what I stand for." Council members held an emergency meeting Tuesday to discuss the issue and approved, 4-0, a nonbinding resolution opposing the filming. Highland Park's emergency financial manager, Ramona Henderson Pearson, who reportedly supports the fire, is said to have the final say on whether or not the house will burn.
