The Most-Searched People of 2001

With 2001 drawing to a close, the year-end lists are already falling into place. AOL (which, like PEOPLE, is owned by AOL Time Warner) has looked at its search traffic for the year and named its first-ever Top 10 Most Searched Lists of 2001. Britney Spears tops two of the lists: most-searched person of the year and most-searched person under 21. In the general list, she is followed by (in order) legendary prophet Nostradamus, Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Lopez, Martha Stewart, Aaliyah, Lil Bow Wow, Eminem. Pamela Anderson and Osama bin Laden. In the under-21 crowd, she is followed by Lil Bow Wow, Lil Romeo, Christina Aguilera, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (in tandem), Aaron Carter, Alicia Keys, Jessica Alba, Justin Timberlake and Willa Ford. George W. Bush was the most-searched politician; cartoon dolls, the most-searched fad; 'N Sync, the most-searched band; "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," the most searched movie. But perhaps most interesting is the list of the most-searched Georges. They are, starting with the most popular: W. Bush, Washington, Strait, Washington Carver, Bush (senior, that is), Harrison, Curious George, Clooney (hmm, beaten by a monkey), comedian Carlin and Jung (the convicted drug trafficker who was the subject of the movie "Blow").
