"Moulin Rouge" and "A Beautiful Mind" led the pack of Golden Globe nominations, announced Thursday, with six nods each. "Rouge" stars Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman are both up for top acting honors for their critically acclaimed performances in the film, which is up for best comedy or musical. (Kidman is also nominated in the best dramatic actress category for her performance in "The Others.") "A Beautiful Mind" earned a best actor nomination for Oscar winner Russell Crowe, and is also in the running for best dramatic film. Billy Bob Thornton received two acting nominations, for "The Man Who Wasn't There" in the drama category and for "Bandits" in the musical or comedy arena. Other dramatic actor nominees are Will Smith ("Ali"), Kevin Spacey ("The Shipping News") and Denzel Washington ("Training Day"). Joining Kidman in the best dramatic actress category are Halle Berry ("Monster's Ball"), Judi Dench ("Iris"), Sissy Spacek ("In the Bedroom") and Tilda Swinton ("The Deep End"). "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" and David Lynch's "Mulholland Drive" each received four nominations, including best dramatic picture. The awards, given by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, are generally seen as foreshadowing for the Academy Awards, handed out with great fanfare in March. This year the Golden Globes are taking on even more weight, since no one film has walked away with the bulk of critical accolades to date. The New York Film Critics Circle selected "Mulholland Drive" as best film, while the Los Angeles Film Critics Association honored "In the Bedroom." In the TV category, HBO leads the networks with 19 nominations -- including nods for (surprise) "The Sopranos," "Six Feet Under" and "Sex and the City." Also up for best TV drama are "24" (Fox), "Alias" (ABC), "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (CBS) and NBC's "The West Wing." Nominees for best TV musical or comedy series include "Ally McBeal" (Fox), "Friends" (NBC) and "Sex and the City" (HBO).
