Reunited Sex Pistols to Fete Queen?

This June will be the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth's 50th year as Britain's figurehead. Who better to celebrate it in this post-modern era than the surviving Sex Pistols, who, 25 years ago, released an album filled with some of the most vitriolic, anti-royal sentiments ever expressed? John Giddings, the promoter who organized the band's 1996 reunion tour, said on Tuesday that the punk rockers may regroup for the Queen's Golden Jubilee, reports Reuters. In 1977, the band's single "God Save the Queen," released at the time of the Queen's Silver Jubilee, was so disrespectful of the royals that the BBC banned the song from radio. The lyrics include the lines: "God save the Queen/The fascist regime /God save the Queen/She ain't no human being." Ouch. The song went to No. 1 in the U.K., and the Pistols became a cultural phenomenon. If they do get back together this spring (minus the late Sid Vicious), it may be for less than rebellious reasons. Giddings said that "substantial sums of money" have been offered.
