Alicia Keys and U2 are the first performers confirmed to appear on the 44th annual Grammy Awards, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences announced on Tuesday on its official website. The show will air live on CBS from L.A.'s Staples Center on Feb. 27. Keys's debut CD last year, "Songs in a Minor," earned her an impressive six Grammy nominations, including those for record of the year, song of the year (for the single "Fallin' ") and best new artist. She will compete with U2 -- the Irish rock band fronted by Bono received the most nominations this year, eight -- in the record of the year and song of the year categories. Keys, 20, a New York City native, graduated from high school at age 16 and enrolled at Columbia University that same year. Four years later, she's an R&B star with a multi-platinum debut CD. Meanwhile, the academy also announced that Britney Spears, Diana Krall and Janet Jackson would present at the ceremony. Jon Stewart will host the show, and more performers and presenters are due to be announced over the coming weeks. And in other music news, Launch.com reports that Sony Music artist Jessica Simpson, 21, will sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the 2002 Pro Bowl, the NFL's season-ending all-star game, at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu on Feb. 9. The game will be broadcast live starting at 4:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Simpson's "Dream Chaser" DVD was also released on Tuesday. It combines exclusive interview footage with a behind-the-scenes tour of her music videos.
