Since leaving office on Tuesday, former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani has joined the lucrative speaking circuit, and will command up to $100,000 per engagement, according to some estimates. The Associated Press reports that Giuliani, 57, has signed up with the Washington Speakers Bureau, whose client roster includes former Vice President Al Gore, former President Jimmy Carter and Bob and Elizabeth Dole. Giuliani, who served eight years as mayor of America's biggest city, gained the respect of the nation with his strong leadership after the Sept. 11 attacks. Time magazine named him Person of the Year. On Thursday, after reportedly having spent two days vacationing in Florida with his girlfriend Judith Nathan, 46, Giuliani is scheduled to speak at a private event for General Electric executives in Boca Raton. A GE spokesman declined comment to the Associated Press on the subject of Giuliani's speech or on the fee he is to receive, if any. Meanwhile, New York's Daily News on Friday reports that national Republican officials from California to Florida are seeking Giuliani's help in this year's elections. Giuliani, himself a Republican, is expected to oblige. (In between, he must sit down and write two books, an autobiography and a tome on management issues for which Talk Miramax publishers is paying him $3 million.) Upon returning to New York, Giuliani is expected to set up an office for his new consulting firm and complete plans for the Rudolph W. Giuliani Center for Urban Affairs, a think tank that is also due to include a Giuliani library with artifacts from his time in office.
