Winona Ryder: Theft Case Interrupted

"Girl, Interrupted" star Winona Ryder will have to wait until Feb. 8 for prosecutors to decide if they will bring criminal charges against her following her Dec. 12 arrest for allegedly lifting nearly $5,000 in clothing, hair clips and accessories from the Beverly Hills branch of the Saks Fifth Avenue department store. Investigators also said the star, 30, was carrying drugs without the proper prescriptions. Dressed in a black skirt, white blouse and black sweater, reports Reuters, Ryder entered Beverly Hills Superior Court through a back entrance for a brief hearing before Judge Elden Fox. The jurist extended her bond pending further investigation of the case, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office told the news service. Ryder has yet to be formally charged, district attorney spokeswoman Jane Robinson said, adding: "We want to review all the possible evidence before we make a decision on this case." Ryder's attorney, Mark Geragos, said at the time that Ryder's arrest stemmed from a "misunderstanding" with the store manager and predicted charges against her would be dismissed. He also foresaw no drug charges being filed against his client. "She had prescriptions. We have evidence to prove that," Geragos told the New York Post on Thursday.
