Sarah -- and Scandal -- Shake Harvard

A scent of opprobrium has soiled the rarified atmosphere surrounding the Hasty Pudding Theatricals club at Harvard -- which, as it salutes its man and woman of the year, has two members facing embezzlement charges. Bruce Willis will be honored next Thursday, while Sarah Jessica Parker was the center of attention this Thursday. During the ceremony, the "Sex and the City" star, 36, sang "Tomorrow" from "Annie," the Broadway musical that launched her career when she was a child, and then she danced (and kicked off her high heels) to the music of the movie "Footloose," reports the Associated Press. She also took pictures of the pit orchestra and Hasty Pudding members who conducted the roast. "I'm documenting my experience at Harvard," she said, according to the AP, "since it's the last time I'll ever be here." Meanwhile, reports The New York Times, prosecutors have accused two seniors from the university of embezzling about $100,000 from the Hasty Pudding club, which is the oldest undergraduate theater organization in the country, with alumni including the late Jack Lemmon and Fred Gwynne. Harvard seniors and ex-high-ranking club members Suzanne M. Pommey (who co-produced last year's man and woman of the year ceremonies) and Randy J. Gomes (who co-directed the 2001 events), both 21, pleaded not guilty to charges of grand larceny this week. Prosecutors, however, said the two have acknowledged their involvement in embezzling the money, using club credit cards to transfer money into their own bank accounts. According to The Times, Gomes blamed his actions on a drug habit that began his freshman year. Club officials declined comment. A lawyer for Gomes told The Times his client "hopes to get this behind him as soon as possible and graduate from Harvard University."
