The shooting of the latest James Bond movie has been halted for the next two weeks, its London-based production company said, due to a mysterious injury that has befallen its leading man, PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive 2001. "Pierce Brosnan has always pursued the character with extreme physicality," EON Productions said in a statement, Reuters reported. "Friday, Brosnan sustained a knee injury during an action sequence involving water." The news release went on to state that Brosnan, 49, who is playing agent 007 for the fourth time, would be out of commission for two weeks but that the as-yet untitled film, referred to as "Bond 20," would still meet its November 2002 release date. In keeping with the secret-agent-like atmosphere surrounding the film, which reportedly had been shooting in Cornwall, England, a spokeswoman for EON Productions declined to comment further about Brosnan. Of course, injuries are commonplace on action-movie sets. Last year's Best Supporting Actor, "Traffic" star Benicio Del Toro, 35, suffered a fractured wrist last summer while shooting a fight scene with Tommy Lee Jones for a movie called "The Hunted." According to a report in Variety at the time, both actors were reaching for a knife, and "it was a freak accident," said Paramount chief Sherry Lansing. Del Toro was rushed to UCLA hospital for surgery and, as a result of his long healing period, that film, originally scheduled for a spring 2002 opening, is now due to be released this fall.
