Rosie Sparks Barbara, Diane Rift?
Diane Sawyer lands an exclusive interview in which O'Donnell discusses being a lesbian, though Barbara Walters brings the subject to the air first.

There's no putting to rest the rumors of a rift between ABC News stars Barbara Walters and Diane Sawyer, as even The New York Times points out Wednesday morning. The latest episode, notes the paper, concerns Sawyer's landing a big interview in which Rosie O'Donnell talks about being a lesbian -- which will not air until March 14, on "Primetime Thursday." But Walters and her sister hosts on "The View" already did a segment on O'Donnell's coming out, following reports of the revelation in PEOPLE.com and elsewhere. The Times reports that people at ABC News confirmed on Tuesday that Sawyer, 56, is angry that Walters, 70, had scooped her. But Sawyer told the Associated Press on Tuesday that she does not believe that her colleague had meant to dampen her exclusive. The Times points out that it was told by ABC News that neither Sawyer nor Walters was available for comment Tuesday. As Walters told AP that day: "This had nothing to do with getting an interview with Rosie, but I am sensitive enough now as I look back to see how it could be interpreted that way and how, if one didn't know the story and wanted to create a story, it could look as if I was trying to harm Diane." Walters went on to assure the news service, "This is not the evil axis. This is a little misunderstanding." Said Sawyer to AP: "Barbara and I talked about that, and I am now completely relaxed about it." On Jan. 30, PEOPLE.com reported that O'Donnell will be coming out when her memoir, "Find Me," is published on April 23, as was confirmed by an executive at Gruner + Jahr, which publishes her Rosie magazine.
