While her movie "Crossroads" faces the music at the box office, Britney Spears is set to appear in a different medium. The pop princess, 20, is starring in "Britney's Dance Beat," a video game set for release in May for PlayStation 2, reports New York's Daily News. The game reportedly features a virtual 3-D likeness of her. "It looks like Britney, it moves like Britney, it's the next best thing to Britney," Liz Pieri, a spokeswoman for game manufacturer THQ Inc., told the newspaper. "Its simply wild." According to the Calabasas Hills, Calif.-based company, Spears submitted to an image scan that lasted several hours so that her likeness would be as realistic as possible. "Britney's very protective of her image but was quite pleased with our rendering," Pieri said. "Her mom likes it, too." In a statement, Spears co-manager Larry Rudolph called the foray into the world of video games a "natural extension" for Britney. "The explosive growth in the interactive category driven by new gaming technologies means fans can look forward to an ultra-realistic adventure through Britney's world," he said. Players compete as backup dancers to the star and can edit their own Britney videos. Pieri predicts the game will be a hit on the order of "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider."
