We see London, we see France, we see President Bush's underpants. And, according to The Washington Post, they are "tighty-whities," also known as briefs. The unveiling took place in a $5.95 novelty cutout book that went on sale at the Kennedy Center -- and, apparently, other retail outlets -- this week and titled "George W. Bush and His Family Paper Dolls." The illustration of Bush on page seven, by artist Tom Tierney, features the president modestly clasping his hands in front of himself as he sports his briefs, matching T-shirt and . . . cowboy boots. First Lady Laura Bush is garbed in a full-length blue slip. The Post quotes the book's text as explaining that her "underwear . . . is more modest than today's swimwear." Daughters Barbara and Jenna don't get the underwear treatment; they have their clothes on. The book is selling very well, according to The Post. So well, in fact, that there's no longer a copy to be had in the Kennedy Center gift shop. "Young people like to purchase and have fun with these books," Center vice president Ann Stock told the paper. "It shows the president and first lady in a variety of clothing situations." They are formally garbed on the cover. As for that hot page seven: "Somehow," says local marketing consultant Jeanne Wolfson -- who had tipped off The Post to the paper doll book in the first place -- "President Bush in his undies and cowboy boots did not seem to be in good taste or even Texan! Do Texans wear cowboy boots with their underwear?"
