PEEVED: ABC star Drew Carey, 43, says the network forced him to rewrite an episode of "The Drew Carey Show" that lampooned airport security guards, the Los Angeles Times reports. Carey said he was told to make at least one guard appear competent or the episode would be ditched. "I've never had a threat like that from the network," Carey told the Times. "If you can't satirize authority institutions, what's the point?" The amended episode was due to tape this week and air next month. ABC declined comment . . . PREPARED: Actress and author Carrie Fisher, 45, will pay tribute to "Star Wars" producer George Lucas, 57, on April 12 at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts/Los Angeles' 11th annual Britannia Awards, the organization said. Lucas, who cast Fisher as Princess Leia in the movie series that was launched in 1977, will receive the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for excellence in film. HBO (which, like PEOPLE, is part of AOL Time Warner) will receive the TV award . . . REBUKED: Rep. Gary Condit's wife's demand for an apology for a Feb. 6 "Law & Order" episode about a politician and a missing aide has been denied, reports the Associated Press. The NBC show's producers rejected Carolyn Condit's request, and the network concurred with the decision, said a spokeswoman, who noted that the show "is fictional" . . . EXTENDED: A British court on Wednesday adjourned until May 1 the assault and weapons-possession hearing of '80s pop star Adam Ant (real name: Stuart Goddard), 47, reports Reuters, which described the "Stand and Deliver" musician as graying and balding. He stands accused of brandishing a gun in a London pub last month . . . REVEALED: "Vanilla Sky" Best Song Oscar nominee Paul McCartney, 59, told Katie Couricon Thursday's "Today" show that he and fiancee Heather Mills, 34, intend to wed "sometime this summer." He would not be more specific. He did add, however, that he has a friend in New York named Rob "and," McCartney told Couric, "he loves you Katie. He really loves you." She appeared bewildered by the declaration, but smiled just the same.
