Jennifer Lopez, who has sunk money into a Hollywood nightclub called the Conga Room, is about to beef up her investment portfolio even more, reports the Los Angeles Daily News. The singer-actress, 31, had hoped to have her new Cuban-style family restaurant open for customers in Pasadena, Calif., this past week, in time for some post-Oscar business. That deadline wasn't met, says her publicist, Alan Nierob, but Lopez does plan on opening the eatery "sometime in April," he said. Mojo Restaurant LLC, Lopez's investment group, has taken over the former Pinot Restaurant and Martini Bar in Pasadena's historic retail shopping district, near a landmark former Bullock's department store. The necessary permits are in place for the opening to take place, says the Daily News, but the plan to rush the opening in time for the Oscars simply wasn't feasible. "Obviously, if she brings on a quality team -- a general manager and a great chef -- she'll do well," Mark Martin, of the California Restaurant Association in Sacramento, told the paper. "Her name recognition and resources are going to help, but to sustain a customer base, it falls back to the quality of the food." Meanwhile, USA Today reports that another singer's food venture, Britney Spears's new restaurant in Manhattan's Dylan Hotel, will now be called Nyla, in honor of New York and her home state of Louisiana.
