ANNOUNCED: Telepictures, the producer of ABC's "The Bachelor," is seeking applications from single guys who wish to find the perfect mate on the next installment of the series, reports the New York Post. Potential bachelors may check the ABC Web site for details. All applicants are reportedly promised callbacks from casting directors . . . DIED: Hollywood director George Sidney, 85, died Sunday at his Las Vegas home from complications of lymphoma, said his wife, Corinne Sidney, reports the Associated Press. While never in the same league as the artistic Vincente Minnelli or the groundbreaking Stanley Donen, Sidney supplied audiences with many enjoyable Technicolor musicals, including "Bye, Bye Birdie" with Ann-Margret, "Viva Las Vegas" with Elvis Presley and "Anchors Aweigh," starring Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra . . . GRANTED: "Hannibal" star Anthony Hopkins, 66, and his wife of 27 years, Jennifer, 57, were provisionally granted a divorce by London's High Court Friday on the uncontested grounds that they had lived separately for more than two years, reports Reuters. The two were married in 1973 after Hopkins left his first wife (of four years), Petronella Barker, with whom he has a daughter . . . PLANNED: With the mega-success of "Spider-Man" this weekend, Quentin Tarantino, 39, has announced plans to serve as executive producer of a film based on the Marvel Comics series "Mort: The Dead Teenager," reports Reuters. Madonna's Maverick Films will coproduce.
