A 51-year-old woman who has allegedly been following Richard Gere all over the world has been charged with stalking the actor, 52, and ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, reports New York's Daily News. Ursula Reichert-Habbishaw is due in a Manhattan court this Wednesday. She is being held for examination until then, says the News. According to court papers, Reichert-Habbishaw, who was apprehended on April 30 when she dropped in on Gere's Greenwich Village office for the sixth time, called Gere on the phone about 100 times since Feb. 1 and left a series of messages on his voicemail in that period of time. Among the communications she left, Gere's assistant told the police, the News reported: "I want to be with you and share your life . . . I need to see you . . . Death seems to be the best . . . I can take a pistol and kill myself." At the time of her arrest, Reichert-Habbishaw allegedly showed up at Gere's office and demanded to see him. The actor, meanwhile, said he has never met his apparently obsessive fan, though police believe she has been following him for some time, even going to India while he was visiting the Dalai Lama, the News reports. In similarly unsettling news, WNBC New York TV reported Monday morning that police also have in custody a man who has allegedly been stalking Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg. The suspect, who was not named, was picked up by authorities outside the Schlossbergs's Upper East Side Manhattan apartment building.
