Bryant Gumbel's exit next month from his "Early Show" perch and his CBS contract also means he won't be on hand to perform his traditional role as host of the "Survivor" post-mortem. So, reports New York's Daily News, the slack will be picked up by Rosie O'Donnell, who will assume Gumbel's duties for the May 19 reunion special tied to the finale of the fourth edition of CBS's "Survivor." The finale and reunion will be broadcast live from Wollman Rink in New York's Central Park, reports the paper. As she is with so many things (Ding-Dongs, among them), O'Donnell, 39, is described as an "ardent" "Survivor" fan. She has frequently featured former contestants on her show -- which she is vacating on May 22. "She's been very enthusiastic about the ("Survivor") show," a CBS spokesman told the paper. In addition to the reunion episode -- on which all 16 players from the current "Marquesas" game shall assemble to discuss their experiences -- the winner also will be revealed live in Central Park. For last season's "Survivor: Africa" finale, notes the News, producer Mark Burnett attempted to shift from the final tribal council, recorded in Kenya, to Television City in Los Angeles for the vote tally without informing viewers. It wasn't until the studio audience reacted to what was happening onstage that TV viewers realized they were being duped. But this time out, reports the News, viewers will observe that the show is ending in Central Park. "Survivor" host Jeff Probst is due to announce the winner before the action shifts to the O'Donnell reunion show.
