The Idyllic Last Days of Lisa Lopes
The TLC singer owned 80 acres in Honduras and partook of treatments at a nearby natural spa, to be cleansed of the effects of stardom.

Only telling a few intimates of her intentions to live out her life on the Caribbean coast of Central America, TLC member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes had bought 80 acres in northern Honduras -- where she planned to open a nature and crafts center for children from around the world, reports The New York Times. Lopes, 30, was killed in a car accident in the Central American country last Thursday, when the SUV she was driving went off the road and flipped over. The Associated Press reports that her public funeral will be held on Thursday at the 10,000-seat New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in the Atlanta suburb of Lithonia. Two years ago, says The Times, she persuaded her uncle, Anthony Lopes, to move there from Florida to guard her land and plan for construction on its mango tree-laden acres in an area called Sambo Hill. Especially appealing to the Philadelphia-born Lopes was the nearby presence of a health spa overseen by a self-described "intra-cellular therapist" known as Dr. Sebi. His methods, says The Times, include fruit-based diets, thermal treatments and herbal medicines to treat illnesses and to promote health and longevity. Lopes was a frequent spa visitor, says the paper, and at the time of her death was completing a month-long visit there for one of the periodic "cleansings" that she relied on to purge herself of the physical and mental effects of stardom.
