Delay in Ryder's Preliminary Hearing
In an update in the Winona Ryder case (she stands accused of leaving the Beverly Hills branch of Saks Fifth Avenue allegedly with nearly $5,000 of merchandise on her) a preliminary hearing was postponed on Tuesday until May 22, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office told the Associated Press. No reason was reported. The incident that resulted in Ryder's arrest occurred last December, and Ryder remains free on $2,000 bail. In an interview in the current issue of W magazine, the "Girl, Interrupted" star, 30, declined to discuss the case, but she did say that she suffers with chronic insomnia. Her soulmate in the situation, she says, is Al Pacino, 62. "I got a call from Al. He's an insomniac," Ryder tells the magazine. "We talk in the middle of the night. I don't sleep, he doesn't sleep. So it is very normal that we call each other at two in the morning. I just love him so much." Ryder stresses that the two are just friends, though she does find Pacino, with whom she stars in the upcoming "Simone," "incredibly attractive" and "just irresistible." Kind words, too, surface in the W interview for Ryder's costar in "Mr. Deeds," Adam Sandler, 35. He is, she says, "sweet and adorable," as well as "completely the most noble person you would ever meet."
