Two icons, two sculptures. Wednesday in Minneapolis Mary Tyler Moore's famous hat toss, immortalized in bronze, was unveiled as Sonny Curtis sang the theme song from the 1970s' "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "Love is All Around," as about 2,000 onlookers sang along, reports the Associated Press. Moore, 64, was there, too. Meanwhile, the same day in New York, a sculpture honoring the late actress Audrey Hepburn (1929-93) for her humanitarian work was unveiled adjacent to the headquarters of the United Nations Children's Fund. The 7-foot bronze, called "The Spirit of Audrey" and created by artist John Kennedy, was commissioned and donated to UNICEF by Robert Wolders, the star's longtime companion in Switzerland. Among those attending in Manhattan, reports AP, were Wolders, Mia Farrow, Harry Belafonte and former James Bond star Roger Moore. "It was Audrey who introduced me to UNICEF," said Moore, 74. "Not many celebrities would try to commit themselves to make a difference. Audrey is the best example." As for the Minnesota festivities, Moore (Mary Tyler, not Roger) thanked the crowd for braving the chilly weather, then quoted from her theme song: "I guess I can take a nothing day and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile." All too true.
