J.Lo to Get Comic Book Treatment
Another week, another announcement of another movie for Jennifer Lopez to star in. This time it's as a therapist for superheroes in a comedy to be called "Shrink," based on an Internet character created by former Marvel Comics illustrator Rob Liefeld, reports Variety. In sort of a "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and "Shrek" approach, says the trade paper, the lightly satiric movie will include recognizable superheroes in cameo and supporting roles. J.Lo herself will play a retired superheroine who swaps her cape for a couch so she might counsel all those psychologically troubled Supermen and Wonder Women out there. Only she gets trapped in the ultimate pitfall: a love triangle. Lopez, 31, is currently starring in "Enough," about a young mother fighting back against her abusive husband. Last weekend, in its second week, the thriller was No. 7 on the box office list and had a cumulative gross of about $27 million, said Variety. J.Lo has already finished shooting two upcoming movies, "Gigli," with Ben Affleck, and "The Chambermaid," a Cinderella-like comedy with Ralph Fiennes. Previously announced future projects also include "Jersey Girl" for writer-director Kevin Smith ("Dogma"), again costarring Affleck, and "Carmen," an update of Prosper Merimee's 19th century short story that in 1875 became the classic George Bizet opera. It's about a gypsy temptress and the Spanish soldier who becomes obsessed with her.
