Brandy to Fill Osbournes' MTV Slot
Brandy is ready for her MTV close-up. Next week, the 23-year-old singer will star in her own reality series, "Diary Presents: Brandy -- Special Delivery," about her everyday life and the birth of her first child, Variety reports. Sound familiar? The Brandy show, kicking off June 18, will fit into the time slot vacated by MTV's hugely successful show "The Osbournes" and will run on consecutive Tuesdays at 10:30 p.m. The network describes the new show as documenting "the daily life of Brandy as she balances her marriage (to producer-songwriter Robert Smith), career, family and impending motherhood." So far, four and possibly five half-hour episodes are scheduled, depending upon when the former "Moesha" star (full name: Brandy Rayana Norwood) gives birth, says Variety. Production is ongoing, and the series will culminate with the baby's birth, MTV's senior VP of music development, Lois Curren, told the trade paper, adding that the idea for the show "really had nothing to do with 'The Osbournes,' " but rather spun out of the music and talent programming department instead. "Brandy is such a huge core artist to us, and this is of great interest to our viewers, to have this event," Curren said. "This event came up, and Brandy had just released an album ("Full Moon"). This was more event driven."
