DIED: Baseball legend Ted Williams, 83, the Boston Red Sox's "Splendid Splinter" and the game's last .400 hitter, died Friday at a Boston hospital after years of heart problems, reports the Associated Press. A two-time MVP who twice won the Triple Crown, the Hall of Famer hit .344 lifetime with 521 home runs. Mexican actress Katy Jurado, 78, who played Gary Cooper's former mistress in the classic 1952 drama "High Noon," died Friday of natural causes at her home in Mexico. Throughout the '50s she was a star in Hollywood westerns. Notable film director John Frankenheimer, 72, whose movies included "The Manchurian Candidate" and "Birdman of Alcatraz," died of a stroke Saturday following complications from spinal surgery, reports The New York Times. Before turning to the big screen, Frankenheimer directed dramas during the Golden Age of TV.
