So, What Gives on McCartney's Wedding?
Very few people in the world, except for possibly future groom Paul McCartney, 59, and his wife-to-be, Heather Mills, 34, know where or when they are to get hitched, Reuters and a few other news outlets were noting on Wednesday. In fact, earlier in the week, PEOPLE.com received an e-mail from a reporter at NBC News, asking if we knew any details. (We didn't, except for several unconfirmed rumors.) There has been a lot of talk of the ceremony taking place on June 6 at Skibo Castle in Scotland, where Madonna and Ashley Judd got married (not to each other), or in New York's tony Southampton, but there's been no confirmation from any credible source. Neither have there been denials. The shroud of secrecy is meant to thwart the possibility of a media circus. After all, ex-Beatles don't get married every day. According to Reuters, one German magazine published what it claimed was part of the official wedding invitation, minus any location. "Meeting point: Heathrow (airport in London) 0830," it read, going on to stipulate, "bring your passports, no mobile phones, no cameras." New York Post columnist Cindy Adams wrote that the ceremony will occur next Tuesday, June 11, at Castle Leslie, an historic pile set in a 1,000-acre estate near Monaghan town, 80 miles north of Dublin, Ireland. "Sir Beatle is inviting 300 people," Adams wrote for Wednesday's editions. "They are all sworn to secrecy, lest this get in the papers." (Only in the Post, Cindy. Only in the Post.) However, the Castle Leslie's owners told Reuters that Adams's announcement was "absolutely not true." British papers had previously predicted that the wedding would be held at the Long Island, N.Y., home of John Eastman, brother of McCartney's late wife, Linda, who died of breast cancer four years ago. "I don't know anything at the moment," McCartney spokesman, Geoff Baker, told Reuters. "I haven't spoken to Paul about it." Sure he hasn't.
