Shock rocker Marilyn Manson, accused of sexual misconduct for allegedly gyrating suggestively against a security guard at a Michigan concert last July, pleaded no contest Wednesday to charges of disorderly conduct and assault and battery, reports the Associated Press. Manson (real name: Brian Warner), 33, was ordered by Clarkston (Mich.) District Judge Gerald McNally to pay fines and costs totaling $4,000. A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt, notes the AP. During the 15-minute hearing, the rocker, devoid of his trademark ghoulish stage makeup and piercings (he wore a simple black suit), sat silently before the judge, said the news service. Later outside the courtroom, he told reporters that the judge was fair and called the outcome "a victory for art." Security guard Joshua Keasler, part of the stage staff during Manson's July 30, 2001, performance at the DTE Energy Music Theatre, claims that Manson rubbed his genitals against Keasler's neck during the performance. The guard has also filed a federal civil suit against Manson, which is still pending. Of Wednesday's ruling, Oakland County assistant prosecutor Ken Frazee III told the AP, "I think further punishment is warranted, given the conduct of the defendant and to act as a deterrent." Defense attorney Walter Piszczatowski called the sentence appropriate.
