Billy Joel, 53, is due to depart Connecticut's Silver Hill Hospital, a rehab clinic specializing in drug and alcohol rehabilitation, on Wednesday, reports New York's Daily News. That will bring the musician's total stay there to 10 days, said a spokeswomen for Joel, who also said that he intends to head straight to his home in the Hamptons upon his release. It was reported that Joel's problems might have been tied to his painful breakup with "Inside Edition" anchor Trish Bergen, who recently married someone else. She wishes Joel well, reports the News. In a statement, she said, according to Reuters: "I am confident that Billy has the strength and resolve to make a full recovery and get on with living his life. He remains a friend, and my thoughts and prayers are with him, but my focus is now on my family." Joel spokeswoman Claire Mercuri said that after some time in the Hamptons, Joel intends to fly to Chicago, where a new stage show called "Movin' Out," featuring his songs and choreography by Twyla Tharp, is holding its pre-Broadway tryout.
