Former "Seinfeld" costar Jason Alexander and actor and comedian Martin Short will star in the Los Angeles production of "The Producers," reports Playbill. The production starring the two actors is slated to run for eight months at L.A.'s Pantages Theatre beginning in May 2003. The casting of Short, known for the quirky characters he has played in films such as 1986's "The Three Amigos" and the 1991 remake of "Father of the Bride" as well as star turns on "SCTV" and "Saturday Night Live," has been a longtime dream for writer Mel Brooks (who also wrote and directed the movie), reports the magazine. Alexander will play the role of the offensive producer Max Bialystock; Short will play timid accountant Leo Bloom (the roles were originally played on Broadway by Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, respectively). Neither Alexander nor Short are strangers to the stage: Short, 52, won a Tony Award in 1999 for the musical "Little Me"; Alexander, 43, won a Tony in 1989 for his work in Jerome Robbins's musical "Broadway."
