It's not exactly "The Lion King," but it could be "The King." With the 25th anniversary of the Aug. 16, 1977, death of Elvis Presley looming closely on the horizon, Presley's ex-wife Priscilla Presley and Los Angeles-based Immortal Entertainment Group announced plans on Wednesday to develop a musical stage show based on her romance with the pop icon, reports Reuters. "This is going to be Priscilla's vision. It's her story. It's the king and the queen. It's the birth of rock and roll," Immortal President David Codikow, who vowed that the show would be upbeat, like the current ABBA stage musical "Mamma Mia," told Reuters. Codikow, who's focusing his sights on the show going to Broadway as well as Las Vegas, said it will probably take at least a year to get the production on the road, and that and his company plans to conduct a nationwide talent search for the leading roles. Elvis and Priscilla, now 57, met when she was 14 (10 years his junior) and the daughter of a military man stationed in Germany. She ultimately moved into Elvis's Memphis home, Graceland, where she lived and went to high school, graduating in 1963. The two wed in 1967, when she was 21, and had a baby girl, Lisa Marie, nine months later. They divorced in 1973.
