NAMED: MTV Video Music Awards presenters Britney Spears, B2K, Bow Wow and Nelly will be joined at the Aug. 29 event by "American Idol" judges Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell, the music network has announced. The two "Idol" finalists will also participate. Jimmy Fallon is set to host, and Bruce Springsteen will perform at the ceremony. ... SLUGGED: San Francisco Giant Barry Bonds, 31, hit his 599th homer in an 11-0 winning game against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night. That delivers Bonds on the doorstep of the exclusive 600-homer club, along with Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth and Willie Mays. . . . SUFFERED: Cherie Blair, 47, wife of Prime Minister Tony Blair, suffered a miscarriage Monday night and was treated in a London hospital before being released Tuesday, her husband's office said, according to the AP. The couple, whose youngest child, Leo, was born in May 2000, have three sons and a daughter. ... DIED: Joshua Ryan Evans, 20, and standing only 3'2", died Tuesday during an undisclosed medical procedure at a San Diego, Calif., hospital, said an NBC publicist, according to the Associated Press. Evans, who played Timmy, a living doll (created by a witch) on the network's soap "Passions," was born with a rare disease that stunted his growth. ... Matt Robinson, 65, a writer for "The Cosby Show" and the first actor to play kindly neighbor Gordon on "Sesame Street," died in his sleep Monday after a 20-year struggle with Parkinson's disease, reports the AP. He had starred on the PBS children's program from 1969-71. ... DIAGNOSED: Pauline Phillips, 84, the creator of "Dear Abby," has Alzheimer's disease, family members revealed to the AP. Phillips -- who has not been involved in the day-to-day business of the advice column for a couple of years, according to its syndicate -- began writing after her twin sister, Esther Lederer, started writing an advice column for the Chicago Sun-Times in 1955. Lederer, 83, who wrote as Ann Landers, died June 22.
