"Pieces of You" platinum-selling singer-songwriter Jewel, 28, is expanding beyond the recording studio and concert stage -- into Hollywood film production, reports Variety. Jewel, whose surname is Kilcher, and her manager-mother, Lenedra Carroll, have formed a company called Magic Lantern Entertainment and have purchased their first movie script, an ensemble drama by screenwriter David Rothmiller. Titled "Wave," it is about the reunion of a mother and her estranged son in a small island community off the west coast of Canada, according to Variety, which goes on to say that the mother-daughter team will serve as executive producers on the project. Jewel will be part of the ensemble. Her previous acting experience includes costarring with Tobey Maguire in Ang Lee's 1999 "Ride With the Devil." Jewel was last in the news in April, when she sustained a broken collarbone, as well as a broken rib and some major bruises, when she was thrown from a colt at the Texas ranch of her boyfriend, rodeo champ Ty Murray. The accident forced her to postpone her European concert tour and then to play it without holding her guitar. "I guess I'll have to polish up my dance routine," she told the Associated Press at the time.
