Waylaid last year because of Sept. 11, the Latin Grammys resumed at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre Wednesday night with Spanish artist Alejandro Sanz sweeping the awards for the second year running.
Reuters reports that singer-songwriter Sanz, who took home four top awards last year, walked away this year with album of the year honors for "MTV Unplugged," as well as record and song of the year for "Y Solo Se Me Ocurre Amarte."
"I'm a little embarrassed from taking this award from Celia Cruz," Sanz said while accepting album of the year honors. Backstage, he restated his embarrassment at his windfall. "It came so suddenly. To win two years in a row, it's too much," he said.
Cuban-born legend Cruz, 77, was nominated alongside Sanz for best album and best record, but she did end up taking home the Grammy for best Salsa album.
The show, which aired on CBS, included veteran Carlos Santana and rap-metal rockers P.O.D., who performed their new song titled "America" from Santana's forthcoming new album. Marc Anthony also Nelly Furtado delivered show-stopping performances.
