While their bandmate Joey Fatone continues to star in the Broadway musical "Rent," other 'N Sync-ers Justin Timberlake and Lance Bass are making news in other corners of the world.
Timberlake, 21, announced on Tuesday that he will write, produce and serve as spokesman for public service radio and TV ads on behalf of Recording Artists, Actors and Athletes Against Drunk Driving (RADD), Reuters reports.
His intention is to raise awareness among young people of the dangers of drinking and driving.
Timberlake's new duties arrive in the aftermath of the Sept. 9 death -- caused by an allegedly drunken truck driver -- of one of his fans, Anna White, 21, while she was waiting for a glimpse of the singer outside a Southern California radio station.
"The senseless death of Anna White yet again demonstrates the horrors of drunk driving," Timberlake said in a statement. "I can only hope that partnering with RADD will raise awareness and convince others never to drive after they've had even a few drinks."
Meanwhile, Bass, 23, isn't just spending his time training at Star City in Russia for a space trip that will never happen. Variety reports that his Hollywood-based production company, called A Happy Place, has optioned Gordon Korman's children's book, "Nose Pickers From Outer Space," for "Grease" and "Honey, I Blew Up the Kids" director Randal Kleiser.
The story sort of involves Bass's beloved outer space: its main character is an alien who impersonates a nerdy fourth-grade exchange student in order to save the earth from extinction.
Earlier this week it was reported that Bass is continuing his astronaut training program despite lacking sufficient funds to participate in the Oct. 28 launch to the International Space Station.
