What, not Oprah? Jerry Seinfeld is booked to deliver new stand-up material on "Late Night with David Letterman" Halloween night, Oct. 31, marking his first performance on TV in more than a year, the New York Post reports.
Seinfeld's spokeswoman confirmed the Letterman booking -- adding the proviso that the date could change. Oct. 31, however, is the first night of the November sweeps, the crucial ratings period used by networks to establish their ad rates.
The Post goes on to say that Seinfeld, 48, is also slated to show up on NBC's "Tonight Show," with Jay Leno on Oct. 10, but he's expected only to take a seat next to the host, not stand on the stage and deliver his comic observations about nothing.
Seinfeld's last TV performance was also on "Late Show" in March 2001. He did about five minutes' worth of material.
The appearances are being set up as Seinfeld prepares to promote his new documentary "Comedian," about the pains of collecting stand-up material and the horrors of delivering it. The film opens in New York and Los Angeles Oct. 11 (the day after the Leno appearance) and in 20 more cities two weeks later.
