PASSAGES: CBS Holds 'CSI' Sniper Story
DECIDED: The Michigan Court of Appeals overturned a jury's $29 million 1999 judgment against "The Jenny Jones Show" on Wednesday, Reuters reports. The court said the program's producers had no legal duty to protect a guest who was later murdered. In a 1995 taping of a never-aired episode, Scott Ademure told Jones that he had a crush on Jonathan Schmitz, who killed Ademure three days later. The court said the show "may be regarded as the epitome of bad taste and sensationalism" but that producers could not have predicted the outcome. Jones said in a statement she is "elated" by the decision.
MOURNED: Adolph Green, 87, the lyricist and script writer whose collaborations with his longtime writing partner Betty Comden included the stage and screen classics "On the Town," "Singin' in the Rain" and "Bells Are Ringing," died in his Manhattan home late Wednesday, his son Adam tells the Associated Press. Considered inseparable, the always-entertaining Comden and Green had been partnered since the late 1930s, and though many people thought the two were married, both had their separate spouses. Green's wife was actress Phyllis Newman.
FOULED: The all-California face-off between the San Francisco Giants and Anaheim Angels has generated two of the three lowest-rated World Series games in history, the AP reports. Anaheim's Tuesday night 10-4 victory received a 10.8 national rating, the lowest ever for the third game of the series, Nielsen Media Research said Wednesday. The rating fell 30 percent from last year's 15.4 between Arizona and the New York Yankees, which went up against Michael Jordan's comeback game to the NBA. Meanwhile, San Francisco topped Anaheim on Wednesday 4-3, to even the series at two games apiece.
CAST: Woody Harrelson, 41, last seen as Grace's lost love interest on "Will & Grace," has been tapped to host NBC's "Three Stooges' 75th Anniversary Special," a one-hour event celebrating the legendary comic trio, Variety reports. No airdate has been announced, nor a reason why NBC is saluting Larry, Moe and Curly.
