Triumph Tries Paw at Recording Career
Someone is barking at the heels of Eminem and Beyonce: Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, who is said to be clawing his way into the music business.
Billboard reports that the four-footed star, age unreported, having already left his territorial mark on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and the MTV Video Music Awards, has a debut album set for release from Warner Bros. on Oct. 7. (Warners, like PEOPLE, is part of AOL Time Warner.)
Its title: "Come Poop With Me." A bonus DVD comes as part of the package.
Described as a canine combo of music, interviews, phone calls and sketches, "Poop" features back-up by members of the "Late Night" band, including guitarist Jimmy Vivino and horn player brother Jerry. Triumph, who is really a hand puppet, is voiced by funnyman Robert Smigel.
Among the CD's guests stars are said to be O'Brien, Adam Sandler, Tenacious D's Jack Black, "Saturday Night Live" star Horatio Sanz and Subway pitchman Jared Fogle, Billboard reports.
As for the DVD, expect to see live performances of such catchy songs as "Together in Pooping," featuring Sandler, O'Brien, Black, Sanz and "SNL"-er Maya Rudolph. Also to be included, says the music trade publication, are interviews with MTV's Kurt Loder and Iann Robinson, as well as comedians Janeane Garofalo and Robert Wuhl.
The first week of October, MTV and MTV2 will reportedly premiere a video from the set, and Smigel – that is, Triumph – is due for another "Late Night" appearance.
