Tuesday's VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards at New York's Radio City Music Hall brought out celebrities of all stripes -- from J.Lo to Steven Tyler -- as they were honored for their fabulous senses of style.

"I think the most important thing about style is the smile you put on other people's faces -- or the look of absolute terror," quipped Rock Style Award winner Tyler, 54, of the band Aerosmith, as he collected his trophy, the Associated Press reports.

Platinum-blonde rapper Eve was honored for her Breakthrough Style. She thanked her nail stylist, Lisa Logan, among a long list of others.

Gwyneth Paltrow, 30, despite her style slip-up at this year's Oscars, received the Red Carpet Award but was not at the ceremony because of her father's recent death, New York's Daily News reports.

But Jennifer Lopez, collecting her Most Influential Star of the Year Award from presenter Donna Karan, was unmistakably there. As seen on the live VH1 broadcast, J.Lo, 32, was outfitted like a demure schoolgirl, in a white tam, a white shirt covered by a tight black sweater and a flared white miniskirt. And stiletto heels.

The show was hosted by "Will & Grace" star Debra Messing, 34, who wore ivory rather than the basic black that seemed to be universal in the hall. Britain's Alexander McQueen designed her first outfit, the Daily News reports.

Meanwhile, Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs paid tribute to Ralph Lauren, and John Travolta presented Gucci guru Tom Ford with the Designer of the Year trophy.

Other honorees included Model of the Year Karolina Kurkova; Leading Man of the Year Hugh Grant; and "Igby Goes Down" star Kieran Culkin, who was picked as Newcomer of the Year.
