It's back to the drawing board for the popular 1988 animated-live-action movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit."
Variety reports that Disney is preparing a major double-disc DVD release next March 25, marking the film's 15th anniversary.
Kathleen Turner memorably starred as the movie's animated seductress Jessica Rabbit, who drove men crazy, particularly the private eye played by Bob Hoskins. Steven Spielberg produced the blockbuster, Robert Zemeckis ("Forrest Gump") directed, and the cartoon characters included not only those from the Disney stable -- Mickey, Donald, Pluto -- but those from Warner Bros.' animation department: Bugs, Daffy and Wile E. Coyote.
The package will feature rare new animation of Roger and other animated characters, Variety reports, and the release will feature new footage of the 'toon characters driving around the movie studio.
Frank Marshall, one of the original producers, tells the trade paper that voice-actor Charles Fleischer will voice a newly animated version of main character Roger in a 15-minute featurette called "Who Made Roger Rabbit." In it, Roger will pop in and out of existing scenes through the use of a blue screen.
Also included in the special edition will be an audio commentary track, giving background on the movie.
"I think the movie sort of stands on its own," said Marshall. "I think it's kind of like 'E.T.' for all of us; everybody came together at the right point of their careers."
