Singer Bobby Brown, the husband of Whitney Houston, was arrested early Thursday morning in Atlanta's upscale Buckhead community and charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, speeding and having no driver's license or proof of insurance, police tell the Associated Press.
Brown, 34, is expected to post bond, but Sgt. T. Davis tells the news service that the musician had an outstanding warrant in neighboring DeKalb County that would probably result in his being transported to a jail there later on Thursday.
According to CNN, Brown is wanted in DeKalb County on a five-year-old warrant stemming from a 1996 arrest. Brown was charged with driving under the influence, no proof of insurance, failure to maintain lane and speeding, according DeKalb County court documents.
State Court Judge Wayne Purdom refused to hear Brown's plea in absentia and continued the proceedings. But when Brown failed to show up for the next hearing, Purdom issued a bench warrant for the former New Edition star.
Brown's publicist did not immediately return a call for comment.
This is just the latest string of trouble for Whitney's hubby, who's had several run-ins with the law and stints in rehab over the past several years. In 2000, Brown spent 26 days in a Florida jail after he violated probation on a 1996 drunken-driving charge by not submitting to a drug test.
Most recently, Brown was taken to a Washington, D.C., area hospital in June by his wife and other family members and friends. "Looking worse for wear," said The Washington Post, Brown was seen being taken in on a stretcher and carried inside Mary Washington Hospital.
A rep for Houston told the newspaper at the time that Brown was suffering from a persistent infection and high fever.
